3rd Conference on the Brazilian-Hungarian Academic and Scientific Cooperation

After January and June of 2015, the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference (HRC) organized the Conference on Brazilian-Hungarian Academic and Scientific Cooperation for the 3rd time on 7 June 2016, at the Eötvös Loránd University.

Among the invitees were all the 350 Brazilian students currently involved in the Science without Borders program, the representatives of the relevant ministries, embassies and institutions as well as the participating Hungarian higher educational institutions.

 

The Opening Ceremony began by the welcome remarks of Dr. Ferenc Pál, Representative of the Rector on Brazilian Affairs of the host institution, Eötvös Loránd University,  Dr. Zoltán Dubéczi, Secretary General of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference, Mr. Iván Medveczky, Head of Latin-America Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Gergely Prőhle,  Deputy State Secretary for EU and International Affairs of the Ministry of Human Capacities, H.E. Valter Pecly Moreira, Ambassador of Brazil to Hungary, and Ms. Nayara Azevedo, chemical engineer student of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

 

After the Opening Ceremony the audience was introduced to the excellent results of Hungarian academics and researchers, and cultural richness of our country by Dr. Márta Szabó Turcsányi, associate professor of Department of EducatioMedia Technology at Faculty of Informatics (Eötvös Loránd University), by Andrea Herdon, MSc Student in Marketing and co-founder of MEDcases start-up and by Dr. Tamás Molnár, Associate Professor at the Department of Visual Studies Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (University of Pécs).

 

In the afternoon participants attended roundtable discussions in ten different scientific sections under the guidance of section leaders invited from Óbuda University, Metropolitan University, Szent István University and Budapest Business School, where the students had the chance to present their research projects developed during the past two semesters.

 

At the closure of the event, speeches were given by Dr. Pál Rácz, Vice-Dean of the Banki Donat Mechanical and Safety Engineering Faculty from Óbuda University and by Kitty Fanni Balog, Science without Borders program coordinator at the HRC. The winning video of Iara Pezzutti – student of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts and the Federal University of Minas Gerais – was awarded as best at the GoPro video competition. Also, Brazilian students could enjoy the performance of folk dancers from ELTE.
