The European Rectors’ Conference Statement
The European University Association (EUA) and the national rectors’ conferences applied to the European Union’s heads of the state and the governments with a statement, which intends to draw attention to the fact that the key of the European Union’s competitiveness is the investment to higher education and research.
The rectors’ conferences ask the political leaders of Europe to increase the support of higher education and research, as without subventions the recovery from the economic crisis and the growth of upcoming years is unconceivable. This period is particularly inappropriate to reduce the support of higher education and research.
Reductions threaten to create a ‘lost generation’, the loss of the race and marginalization.
