CSF Hungary Welcome And Orientation Day

Welcome and Orientation Day was organized for Science without Borders scholarship holders in Hungary. The event – co-organized by the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference (HRC) and the Brazilian Embassy in Budapest – took place at the Lázár Equestrian Park on Friday, 25 September 2015.

The main aim of the Orientation Day was to welcome Brazilian students in Hungary, officially open their academic year by gathering all CSF students and have a welcome dinner in a truly Hungarian environment.

As the happening was held in an equestrian park, 40 kms far from the capital, the institutions organized bus transfers in order to make participation available for all the students. Upon arrival, apart from Hungarian refreshments, students were welcome with personalized pendrives containing useful information provided by the Brazilian Embassy and a CSF Hungary Users’ Guide compiled by the HRC.

The event was opened by Dr. Zoltán Dubéczi, Secretary General of the HRC and welcome remarks were given by H.E. Valter Pecly Moreira, Ambassador of Brazil in Budapest.

The lectures of the event prepared students for the challenges that might occur during their stay in Hungary, therefore the orientation covered practical topics.

Kitti Balog, Program Coordinator provided a detailed guidance on academic rights and requirements, finances, accommodation, and residence permit issuance; Dr Gabriella Holovács, Legal Advisor of the HRC gave legal advices covering all aspects of staying legally safe in Hungary; and at last, Dr György Mérei, psychologist and psychiatrist advised on how to deal with difficulties, culture shock and homesickness, and also introduced the support services available for Brazilian students.

After the speeches, students also had the possibility to have a spectacular and amusing insight into the long equestrian traditions of Hungary in the framework of an equestrian theatre and horse show, which was followed by a dinner with the highlights of Hungarian cuisine accompanied by Gipsy music and the genuine Hungarian hospitality.
