Europe’s University Leaders Call for Urgent Brexit Clarification

The negotiations between the UK and the European Commission on the terms of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU are deeply affecting the UK’s future relationship with the EU – including the fields of research and higher education. At this week’s European Council Summit, the Council will decide whether or not enough progress has been made to start Phase 2 of the exit negotiations, which will cover the UK’s future relationship with the EU – including in research and higher education, creating considerable difficulty for universities in the UK and elsewhere in Europe.

The Hungarian Rectors’ Conference – along with 21 national rectors’ conferences – joined the initiation of the Universities UK and have signed a statement calling on governments across Europe to speed up Brexit negotiations and emphasize the importance of an agreement about the future of European research, collaboration, and student mobility.
The full text of the statement is available here.
