Global Universities in the XXI Century international higher education conference organized by HRC and CGBU at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics
Over 150 university leaders and higher education experts represented 25 countries at the Global Universities in the XXI Century international higher education conference organized by the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference (HRC) and the Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities (CGBU) between 24-27 September 2018, at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME).
In the framework of the XI General Assembly and X International Seminar of the Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities (CGBU), the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference (HRC) and the CGBU organized an international higher education conference, titled Global Universities in the XXI Century. The topics of the event covered the following fields: Models and strategies of XXI. Century global universities / Global geopolitical changes and challenges for the internationalization of universities / Social Accountability, Innovation and Entrepreneurship / Differences between structures, validation of credits and diplomas / Innovative experiences / Start-ups, spin-offs, technology transfer and incubation: different regional approaches / The university and its urban environment / AI and education.
The four-day-long conference started with the opening remarks by János Józsa, Rector of BME and President of the HRC; Levente Magyar, parliamentary state secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Katalin Nagy, President of the HRC’s International Committee; Maria Laura da Rocha, Ambassador of Brazil to Hungary; Gabriel Felipe da Fonseca Dizner, International Advisor and Representative of the Ministry of Education in Brazil; José Ricardo de Santana, Director of Institutional Cooperation at the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) and Representative of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications in Brazil; José Arimatéia Dantas Lopes, Rector of the Universidade Federal do Piauí and President of the CGBU; and Rossana Valéria de Souza e Silva, Executive Director of the CGBU.
In order to establish and foster collaborative initiatives between their institutions, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, the University of Miskolc, and Marwadi University signed a memorandum of understading with the CGBU.
The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Ministry of Human Capacities, the Tempus Public Foundation/Campus Mundi, the Budapest Business School, the Budapest Metropolitan University, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Eötvös Loránd University, the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, the University of Debrecen, the University of Dunaújváros, the University of Miskolc, the University of Pannonia and the University of Sopron.
The welcome coctail – at which students of the Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy offered a dance performance – was offered by the Embassy of Brazil in Budapest, and the Gala Dinner – which also hosted the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the CGBU – was offered by the Tempus Public Foundation at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
As part of the closing ceremony, the University of Dunaújváros, Eötvös Loránd University, the University of Pannonia, the University of Óbuda and the Eszterházy Károly University of Applied Sciences offered an exclusive wine degustation, meanwhile students of the Hungarian Dance Academy and the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music provided a folk performance for participants.
